Promote systemic reform in technical education by employing innovative and effective curriculum delivery processes that ensure maximum flexibility and responsiveness to stakeholder needs.

 
  Objective A NWCET IT Skills Team
   

Develop strategies to align curriculum with workforce needs in order to result in an increased number of well-prepared students available to enter the technology workforce

 
    Activity 1
   

 

Validate NWCET IT skills standards for our region, by identifying the specific skills requirements that both current and emerging technologies place on curriculum.  Identify the top one to two most in-demand technology career clusters for the region.  Validate with regional industry representatives, identifying additional skills needed in the region.  Conduct gap analysis with consortium colleges to determine curriculum modification needs.  Disseminate this information to all colleges in the region for their use in creating and modifying curriculum.
 
    Activity 2
   

 

Evaluate, adapt, and implement existing curriculum for programs developed at other NSF Centers of Excellence (NWCET) and ensure adaptations meet state standards as defined in the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board's Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM).

  Objective B Convergence Lab Team
   

Create convergence lab available for consortium use to support students' learning to integrate various WAN hardware and software technologies from a variety of vendors to simulate real-world WAN environments.

 
    Activity 1
   

 

Implement a Convergence Lab for students, faculty and industry experimentation and use emerging products from industry partners to enhance laboratory learning experiences; emphasis on optics, wireless, voice over IP, security and general computer networking.  Make lab available for remote access to consortium partners.
 
    Activity 2 Learning Model Team
   

 

Develop a model for creating problem-oriented instructional methodology for utilizing convergence lab.  Develop learning activities, piloted in convergence lab, ensuring that the model produces effective instruction.  Disseminate model to consortium and industry partners, including training on how to use the model.

  Objective C Articulation Agreement Team
   

Reform curricula offerings to better meet the career goals of all technology students with emphasis on associate degrees, seamless articulation into university programs, and preparation for the workplace.

 
    Activity 1
   

 

Refine and solidify articulation programs with secondary schools and universities in the region.
 
    Activity 2 Dual Credit Team
   

 

Identify, adapt, and implement dual-credit technical courses.
